When TGUS came out, I recognized it as a new program, with new hosts, and zero chemistry. As such, my expectations were dismally low. After all, the original Top Gear was as boring as AutoWeek Magazine and the first few seasons of New Top Gear were truly awful (remember when Jason was a host, not James?).

As a result, I wasn't disappointed, and have become quite fond of the show as it made huge improvements very quickly. In fact, I thought their second season was far more entertaining than the shit TGUK seasons that came out the past few years.

So here's looking forward to Season 4!

That is the thing, every episode is a challenge. Every episode is a TG special.

They cut the dated TGUK model and stuck with what we generally like the most above all else, rampant and silly specials and shenanigans.

While roadkill is excellent, I think top gear US is getting better where top gear UK really stalled out this season. I can watch many of the episodes from seasons 8 through 16 or so over and over again and it's still good. But lately, I really have to pick and choose. Season 20 was quite boring, really. Meanwhile season 3 of top gear US had a lot of great setups even if the chemistry and flow/pacing wasn't quite there yet. But the winter beater episode was great and once they get past the "let's stage every challenge so that we have an excuse for tanner to be in the car" it can become really good. Seriously, just let tanner do *most* of the fast car tests, let adam do *most* of the luxury/cruiser car tests, and let rutledge do *most* of the quirky/small/wagon tests and occasionally have the others pop in to make fun of the other and perhaps transition into something else. Personally I thought the CTS-V test would've been great if you had tanner in the coupe, adam in the sedan, and rutledge in the wagon all trying to defend their choice as the *best* CTS-V and then had gratuitous burnouts and drifts for 5 minutes.

Season 3, episode 15 - the winter beater challenge was good. Not epic, but definitely loads better than many UK episodes.

Here's my one piece of advice to make the show better, and see if you agree. When it comes to the challenges, they need to stop making the "reward" the review of a supercar or a new car challenge. Because then they always somehow fix it for tanner to win, or make it so the host that does (like rut in the fuel economy challenge) chickens out or something. Just admit that they need to make the two segments separate, and perhaps follow a simple, yet bendable, set of rules for who reviews what. Ex: tanner does supercars, adam does luxury, rut does anything weird or quirky or is a wagon.

I actually like Top Gear U.S.A. I didn't think I would after having watched a lot of the original British version, but really it stands well on its own merits. I don't think it's a show that you can go into expecting it to be everything that the British show is. Sure, the dynamic between the three took a bit to solidify and they really had to work to make it a show that is their own, but I think they've achieved that. Is it anywhere near as sophisticated as the British show? No. But I don't think it ever really wanted to be that to begin with. Is it more fun than the British show? I think that depends on who you're talking to, but I at least feel like the hosts of Top Gear U.S.A are having a blast and are enjoying doing what they do. To me they seem like a group of guys that went to college together that never stopped screwing around with one another, which is great. Bring on more Top Gear U.S.A. and I'll enjoy both it and the original Top Gear.

I'd agree if it was the first season. But after the initial launch (and frankly UK seasons 1-4 can be unwatchable too at times) they started getting a flow going and the third season is above average. SOme episodes stumble but there are more hits than misses. They are finding their own format and their own way to handle the hosts. Instead of a "big fat power obsessed oaf" and two sidekicks. It's "two guys that are more "average" than "racer" scheming to mess with the professional". And honestly, have you seen season 20? I feel let down. It was so boring most of the time. I yearned for a wheel to fall off or for something to catch fire. Do you know what one of their "segments" was? James WATCHING a race between free runners and a guy on a dirt bike in the BBC building. Literally, that was the race. Plus they dropped the "star in a car" part because it was rarely entertaining unless you were a fan of that star. They are finding their own way and I for one support them in the hopes of them finding their way and making a better product.

You do realize how pathetic the original Top Gear was?

You do realize how pathetic the first season of the relaunch of Top Gear was? Remember the fat presenter? Notice how May replaced him? Yea, TGUS hasn't had to fire anyone yet.

You do realize how sad and unmatchable TGUK was for the longest time? Up until 5-6 years ago, TGUK just sucked as a show now too.

TGUS shouldn't be TGUK. Notice they ditched the format and went with a special a episode, every episode? It works for them.

Maybe give it an open mind and realize two TGs is better than just one. Notice that TGUK is a pathetic 6 episodes a season, at least with TGUS being on a network that isn't publicly funded people actually get more of it.

I'm going to make a dedicated comment to this - the last season of TGUK was boring. In fact, quite a few of the recent series have been lacking the energy and flow of the 'older' ones. I'd say they hit a great stride from seasons 5 through 15 or so but lately it just hasn't been as good. A lot of segments are almost unwatchable to me. India special? Joke. James may watching runners and a dirt bike rider go through the BBC? Boring and a massive WTF moment. The car for old people? Funny the first time but I closed the video when I tried to watch it again. Just wasn't entertaining. I think TGUS is getting better with each season and I hope they continue to find their own pace and structure.

It's almost like the US/Canadian version of "Being Human." It's actually better than the UK version. The writers/producers 0f that series never watch the British version and have made the show their own. I still enjoy TG-UK, but I have to agree with you for the most part. I always TiVo it so that I can skip lame segments. I typically try to watch TG-US live so I can interact with others, including Rut and Adam, during the show's airing.

For serious car stuff I go to Chris Harris and others on YouTube.

1. "Wheel falling off and things catching fire" - Hover Van, didn't need wheels and was too wet to need a fire.

2. The average than racer presenter. I don't care what the "average guy" has to say. I can name every F1, MotoGP, WSBK, WRC, and Le Mans champion of all time off the top of my head so i'm the, "you better have pedigree for me to give a shit" kinda guy. That being said, i'm still amazed im as big a fan i am of the UK 3 and that means they have achieved a lot.

3. About watching a race "WITH THE GUY ON A DIRT (NO NOT DIRT TRIALS))....How is James, again JAMES. Supposed to compete with Dougie Lampkin. Have you ever watched Dougie in the early 2000's world indoor or outdoor events? Sorry but that bit was strictly to show off Dougie's talents and the show needed someone to present it. Yes he was watching because he's not superman. Dougie is god.

4. Most US people don't know many of the UK stars and i don't either and i'm not that big of a fan of it so no argument there. I will say having Brian Johnson on top feels damn good. Saw him at the historics at Road Atlanta and Daytona.

TGUSA actually had some good moments last season. In a lot of ways it did better than the last season of TGUK, where the only really good episode had the caravan race. There were a couple of moments that were a bit beyond silly, though. Seriously, Adam, the hang-glider Mustang?

I'm glad they ditched the star in a reasonably priced car segment. It just didn't work in the US format without Jeremy as the interviewer. Also, the TGUSA track looked like the parking lot at an abandoned Walmart. What was up with that?

I've gotten into the habit of turning off Top Gear UK given how shitty it has been lately. For example, I stopped watching the Taxi race the second the limo was cut in half. Scripted bullshit like that has no place in a show which was once so great.

When I watch Top Gear US, I expect it to be comparable to the equivalent TGUK season, of which TGUS is far ahead of its older brother.

I will admit, however, that Roadkill is far more entertaining than any Top Gear.

1) Hover van was boring and heavily scripted and just not fun to watch. It isn't cringe-worthy but I fought real hard to not skip ahead. I called EVERY posible joke in that sketch.

2) Then why watch top gear? All three of the UK hosts are average.

3) My point wasn;t that james should;ve taken part (although having him, say, pilot a subaru down a dirt road in the country while the trials rider races him over an obstacle course could've happened) it was that that segment should;ve never existed in the first place. Where was the car? Please point that out. Where was the relevance to the car program?

4) I agree that some of them are cool. And the F1 stars are hilarious and interesting to hear them talk. I think it would be fun if they did something similar on the US program for NASCAR stars but had like a rallyross course

USA Top Gear not firing anyone. Apart from Foust, the other 2 could use replacing.

"Up until 5-6 years ago" i check the episodes from season 5-7. Seems like quality tv to me.

TGUS shouldn't be TG at all. It should be called, "US TV program with cars and in no way meant to be like another UK show."

2 Top Gears? How about the 6 or 7 that we have had to deal with. Only Top Gear Australia was an ok program but it wasn't enough to keep it alive.

1. I did the same with most Top Gear Segments going back to season 5.
2. Again, those 3 have won me over.
3. As a pilot, i don't need strictly cars from a car program. I see Top Gear as vehicular fun. That's cars, planes, helicopters, trains, gliders, boats, hovercrafts, bikes, scooters, whatever.

Well, clearly you've made up your mind due to reasons that go against logic and appeal to your very distinct yet occasionally opposing interests and ideals. But don't confuse your own narrow mindedness with my enjoyment of a different show.

The one last problem I have with what you said is the line"I see top gear as vehicular fun"........They have so rarely ventured away from cars and even then they have always tied it into cars, that I maintain that the bike vs. runner race did not belong on the show. When they did the blimp caravan? Richard was in a lambo. The various racers with a boat? Always against a car. Anything where a plane was involved? Again, against a car. And there is no law that they couldn't do the same for TGUS. I remember an article for Automobile magazine where two writers in a bentley convertible raced a cross country fedex package. And even in print, they made it sound fun and exciting. So while a train vs. car race might not work, they have material like that to work with here.

Here's one for you - what if top gear US did a race where a supercar drag raced one of the hydroplanes on the water? The boat races are a big deal here in michigan so it's not like a good chunk of the viewers wouldn't understand where that race was coming from.

Kinja'd!!! Victorious Secret > Mosqvich

If anything, I'd put DRIVE ahead of TGUS. Why?

Chris Harris. I care not for anyone else on DRIVE but him. He needs to replace one of the idiots on TGUK at some point, along with 2 others.

TGUS sucked in its first season, it started to redeem itself near the end. After that? It has been rock solid and interesting. It has improved a lot.

TGUK? Slipping at a yearly rate. I'm not laughing like an idiot all the time anymore. I'm actually skipping half the episodes these days. At least TGUS stopped pretending to follow TGUKs format and went straight to special of the week.

I can't hate it because I'm getting ANOTHER good show to supplement what I've got.

And some people act as if TGUS's existence is spelling the end of TGUK. That Wood, Adam and Foust somehow plot to kill the original 3 oafs and take their places or something absurd. I don't get it. I probably never will.

There are shows i can dislike. I'm allowed to do that.

For example, i dislike boring mid 90's front wheel drive Buicks. Not cause i'm closed minded, it's cause i don't like them.

I'm open minded enough to know what Tv was like in the 70's, 80's, and 90's so i know what Top Gear UK was. In today's Fifth Gear, its much of the same from Tiff and Vicky.

If you like TG - USA, then you can keep watching it. Don't get butt hurt about those of us that feel there are better options. Options that aren't rip offs.

You sure do seem quite butthurt yourself, seeing as how many comments you've made on this thread over a show that clearly makes you feel mad.

The solution is to just avoid such articles. But instead you're sitting at the top of the internet mountain just yelling to anyone who cares to listen.

It's all relative.

I don't see an issue going outside the car realm. It's up to TG producers if they wanna try areas outside of cars.

TG-USA can do what they want. Space shuttle vs ant. I won't care.

About being mad. No anger. You made a point to me, i took the time to respond. Are you saying that on a car website, if someone takes the time to respond, they are angry about something? When did i ever write i was angry with Top Gear USA? I wrote i don't feel it is an original product.

That's like saying i'll get mad at Publix brand cereal being next to Wheaties.

It is your insistence that TGUS is inferior as a fact that is disturbing. It isn't a fact, I know you get confused; your not to subtle subtext does more than hint at the fact that you think TGUS sucks, is inferior, and isn't worthy.

Like I said, be a close minded moron.

You compared it to space shuttle vs. ant.

You seem to be ignorant of the wonders that an ant can perform :)

About me being a moron.

I hold an FAA commercial pilot license for both single and multi engine airplanes. Don't think you can be a moron to hold those.

And as you now feel the need to resort to name calling when someone disagrees with you, i present to you this sign.

I refuse to watch TGUS.. I don't like the style, manner or way they host the show.. the chemistry is all wrong. Tanner is too self-absorbed, Rutledge and Adam I cannot relate to at all. It's really too bad that Mike Rowe shills for Ford. I think he'd be able to fill the "Jeremy" shoes better for TGUS. Plus, I can think of 2 other people who could pull off the Hampster and Capt. Slow routine better.. but, until I get paid for an improved show.. I'll keep those ideas to myself.

I wasn't speaking to your intellect, I was speaking to your stubborn insistence that you're opinion is somehow more valid and closer to fact. Hence, moron.

Congrats on the FAA licenses, that sure does impress me over the internet when I wasn't even talking about what you might do for a living.

But thank you for letting a random internet citizen know, I appreciate it.

Would you like me to respond with, righteous honorable esquire Victorious Secret, your thoughts on Top Gear USA do most certainly intrigue my thoughts.?

No. This is the internet. People post what they like and people agree or disagree with it. If you think that's moronic, that's on you.

You're welcome random internet citizen. Glad i could brighten your evening. (11:46pm on my side)

As far as I can tell, this provides additional footage of television presenters doing dumb things with cars. I would enjoy the Today show more if they took that approach.

However.. I do have a problem with the US producers editing 8 minutes of recap into the show. That's enough time for at least four Stig laps. Maybe 5.

There are individuals that will not know a UK version exists and i don't want them thinking the US version is the sole one.

I truly don't care what content ends up on the US version.

No, this is passive agressive caring. The I don't care but I really can't help but caring.

Its like a witch-hunt, crusade; whatever makes you see it in a better light.

TGUS is so bad that people must know who originally created the shining beacon of television glory (HAH, TGUK is hardly a good show on its own. Just barely. It gets beat by, well, quite a lot for an actual show)

It would also escape his mind that some people, despite being exposed to both, actually prefer TGUS more. I know, shocker. But that must make us idiots and our opinions inferior to his own. That is exactly how it is.
